THERE IS A FOUNTAIN
TEXT: Zechariah 13:1
In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.
INTRODUCTION:
There is a fountain flowing that will cleanse you from your sins.
TRANSITION:
I. THE OLD TESTAMENT TAUGHT THE NEED FOR CLEANSING.
1. The Law of Moses prescribed cleansing
Sin pollutes the soul, and cleansing is needed.
Lev 16:30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.
Num 8:7 And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean.
2. David prayed for cleansing
Psa 19:12 cleanse thou me from secret faults.
Psa 51:2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3. God said he would cleanse his people under the new covenant.
Jer 33:8 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity,
Eze 36:25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
Eze 36:25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness
Eze 37:23 I will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.
II. CLEANSING IS PROVIDED IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
1. In the New Testament, baptism is symbolic of cleansing.
Act 22:16 arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
2. This cleansing is through the Word of God.
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
3. This cleansing is by the blood of Christ.
Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
This fountain was opened by a Roman sword when Christ hung upon the cross. Out of his side flowed blood and water. That blood that flowed is still flowing today.
"There is a fountain, filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel's veins. . . "
"Are you washed in the blood, in the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?"
III. I HAVE BEEN TO THAT FOUNTAIN
1Co 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
CONCLUSION: HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE FOUNTAIN
1. "All that labor, let him come."
2. "If Any man will come unto me, I will in no wise cast him out."
